Christians believe that God so loved this creation . . . and so wanted to restore the relationship with humanity . . . that he
decided to come to us humans and to show us his love first-hand. In the fullness of time God’s only Son—Jesus--was born of a
woman to fulfill God’s Law and to open for us humans the way of freedom and peace.
Christians believe Jesus to be the Son of God, being both fully, 100% human and fully, 100% divine. He lived as one of us,
yet without sin.
Christians believe that Jesus lived in Palestine during the reigns of the Roman emperors Caesar Augustus and Caesar
Tiberius, about 6 B.C. to about 30 A.D. He was born into a modest, peasant home and lived in a small village, Nazareth, near
the Sea of Galilee in Palestine. He lived a quiet, dutiful life until he was nearly 30 years old. At that time, Jesus began an
itinerant preaching and healing ministry. His message — the "Good News" that the Kingdom of God has come to earth --
attracted many hearers. In his way of life and in his teachings Jesus showed that the Kingdom of God is new way of living . . . a
way of living by one law, the law of unconditional love. God loves each of us no matter what . . . and we are to love other
people in the same way.
Christians believe that just as humanity had turned against God in the past, it too turned against Jesus, the son of God. The
religious and political authorities in Palestine felt threatened by Jesus’ message of the reign of God and by Jesus’ challenge
to the rigidity of Jewish religious practices. The authorities bribed one of Jesus’ followers to betray him. After several ad hoc
and illegal court proceedings, Jesus was condemned to be executed by Roman crucifixion.
Christians believe that Jesus died on the cross. Jesus went to his execution willingly: in obedience to God’s plan . . . as a
tangible act of God’s love for humanity . . . a sacrifice for human sin.
Christians believe that Jesus was buried and on the third day following his death, he was resurrected. This resurrection
again demonstrates God’s love for humanity by showing God’s victory over the powers of darkness and death. Jesus was
resurrected . . . we too can be resurrected!
Christians believe that after a time, Jesus ascended to God. With his leaving, however, Jesus gave to all his followers—no
matter the time or the place—a commission to go into the world and share with all people that God loves the world and that his
love for the world was fully demonstrated in the life, person and message of Jesus.
Christians believe that after Jesus ascended to God, God sent a spiritual gift—the Holy Spirit—to empower, sustain and
comfort believers on earth.
Those people who believe that Jesus is the Son of God and follow his teachings are called Christians. They try to follow Jesus’
teachings, especially his teaching about unconditional love. This is a new way of living, a life-long endeavor. We never reach
perfection. We just walk with Jesus and try to become the person of love that he intends us to be. This journey of faith . . . this
walk with Jesus . . . begins now, continues throughout the rest of our lives, and continues still after we die. For life with Jesus is
eternal life.
We Christians believe:
For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son,
so that everyone who believes in him may not perish
but may have eternal life.
The Gospel According to John, chapter 3, verse 16

Christians believe in a God. That certainly is the starting point. And this belief is
certainly the primary “leap of faith.” From this starting point, however, one must go
on and say something about this God .
Christians believe God to be divine: eternal, all-knowing, all-present, all-powerful.
Christians believe God to be the creator of the entire universe. At the mere
thought or word from God all things came into being: the vast expanse of interstellar
space, galaxies, suns, the planets . . . and even our own fragile earth.
Christians believe that God created everything from nothing and then took the
primal elements of this creation to bring forth the human race in his own image. God
blessed us with memory, reason, and skill and made us the rulers of creation so that,
in obedience to our Creator, we might rule and serve all his creatures.
Christians believe that humanity turned against its creator God and betrayed his trust in us. In
turning against God, however, we humans also turned against one another.
Christians believe that although we turned against God, God did not turn against us. He remains
active in creation seeking to have a relationship with humanity. Again and again, he called humans to
return. Throughout the entire history of humanity, God has sent prophets and sages to reveal to us his
righteous Law.
Christians believe that time after time humanity tried to return to God and restore our relationship
with him and yet time after time we would again turn away from God and continue living life as we want
to rather that the way that God would have us live it.
