Ministry Opportunities
in Worship
Within the life of the church, from the beginning there has
been a variety of ministries.  Each, according to Paul, is a
specific gift of the Holy Spirit. Worship at Holy Trinity is
made possible through the work of a number of key
volunteers, including:

  • Acolytes
  • Altar Guild to the ill or infirm
  • Eucharistic Ministers
  • Lectors or Readers
  • Lay Readers
  • Eucharistic Visitors to the ill or infirm
  • Choir
  • Greeters
  • Oblationers
  • Ushers
Acolytes

An acolyte is a helper during worship services.  Each
Sunday at Holy Trinity youth and adults can serve as
acolytes assisting our priest in various ways throughout the
liturgy.  Acolytes  carry torches and the crucifix during the
service, assist the priest in preparing the altar by acting as
a server, and collect the offering from the ushers during the
offertory. Being an acolyte is an important way to serve
God and our local parish in worship.
Altar Guild

The Altar Guild flourishes with an outstanding group of
volunteers that prepare the Altar and the church for all
regularly scheduled services, baptisms, weddings, funerals,
and other special services during the year.  Their duties
include special care for the fair linens for the Altar,
placement of the frontals for the Altar, care of clergy
vestments, and care of the vessels used at the Eucharist
services.  The Altar Guild is also responsible for the
purchase of the beautiful altar flowers each week.  Altar
flowers are paid for by donations from parishioners.

Eucharistic Ministers (or Chalice Bearers)

Eucharistic Ministers or Chalice Bearers assist in the
corporate liturgy of the parish by helping the clergy at the
altar.  This ministry helps during the reading of the
scripture, the reading of the corporate prayers, the setting
up of the altar for liturgy and in the distribution of the
common chalice of wine to the people during communion. It
is a lay ministry trained by the priest and licensed by the
bishop to enhance worship and to facilitate the distribution
of communion.
Lectors (or Scripture Readers)

A Lector is a lay person appointed to read the scripture
lessons and prayers in the worship services.  They practice
their reading in advance and try to read clearly and loudly
so that all people in church can hear them and understand
the reading.  Although Lectors are not licensed by the
Bishop, they do receive certificates from the Diocesan
office.
Choir

"Make A Joyful Noise Unto The Lord!"

In a church where worship is so central to our communal
life, music forms an integral part of that experience.  The
music at Holy Trinity is a strong partner to the liturgy itself,
enhancing and adorning it with a language that transcends
words and goes right to our very hearts.  Every Sunday
morning spirits respond to the music of corporate worship
as the choir leads and inspires us in singing God's praises.
"Good music is also timeless.  Our music consists of the
hymns from the 1982 Hymnal along with additional popular
and contemporary hymns to enhance the mood of worship.
Greeters

There are people whom God has blessed with the spiritual
gift of hospitality and warmth of spirit.  These lay people
greet parishioners and visitors before and after the service.
They encourage them to sign our guest book, they invite
them to coffee and fellowship, and they answer questions
as needed.
Oblationers

Oblation bearers bring the gifts of bread and wine for the
Holy Eucharist on Sunday mornings, processing with the
bread and wine from the back of the church to the Altar.
When the oblation bearers present the elements of bread
and wine for the Holy Eucharist, they represent the
members of the congregation presenting themselves and
their gifts to the Lord for Him to take, bless, transform, and
use.

Ushers

This is a Sunday morning lay ministry whose participants
greet worshipers, distribute bulletins, collect the offering,
control the flow of the congregation going to communion,
and count attendance.  Deceptively simple, it is requires
the gifts of dedication and consistency and faithful
attendance.

Lay Readers

Lay Readers are persons trained to lead public worship.
These persons are designated and trained by the Rector to
lead Morning and Evening Prayer during weekday services
or to lead the lay-led Morning Prayer on Sundays if the
Priest cannot celebrate Holy Communion. Lay Readers are
licensed by the Bishop.
Eucharistic Visitors

Eucharistic Visitors have a special ministry to take
communion from the altar at a worship service and
distribute communion to the ill and infirm and homebound.
The Sacrament is taken to the sick or shut-ins of the parish
after the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.  Eucharistic
Visitors are lay persons selected and trained by the rector
and licensed by the Bishop.
