The Phoebe Chapter of the Order of the Daughters of the King (DOK)
The Daughters of the King, affectionately known as the DOK, is an Order for women who are communicants of the Episcopal Church, or churches in communion with it, or churches who are in the Historic Episcopate. Members undertake a Rule of Life, incorporating the Rule of Prayer and the Rule of Service. By reaffirmation of the promises made at Confirmation, a Daughter pledges herself to a life-long program of prayer, service and evangelism, dedicated to the spread of Christ's Kingdom and the strengthening of the spiritual life of
Episcopal Church Women (ECW)
The Holy Trinity chapter of the Episcopal Church Women, affectionately known as the ECW, meets at 10:45 a.m. in the parish hall the second Wednesday of each month. Their ministry is a ministry of service to the parish and the greater community. They are active in all areas of parish life. They have several fund-raisers each year to raise monies to support community ministries and to support parish life in tangible ways.
The ECW has taken on the upkeep of the Parish kitchen and keeps us supplied with coffee, paper goods and other necessary hospitality items. The ECW also takes charge of Parish functions like our periodic Sunday covered-dish luncheons. It oversees occasional luncheons for our convocational Episcopal clergy. It also hosts functions such as receptions for baptism, graduations and bishops' visitations.
her parish. "The object of this Order shall be the extension of Christ's Kingdom through Prayer, Service, and Evangelism." The Motto of the Order: For His Sake . . . I am but one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. What I can do, I ought to do. What I ought to do, by the grace of God I will do. Lord, what will you have me do? The Daughters of the King meet at Holy Trinity the first Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall. For more information, contact Robyna Prescott at 962-2929 or jrprescott@sbcglobal.net
One of the newer activities that the ECW has begun is a Fall Benefit Bridge Luncheon held in October. Proceeds from this function go to community outreach ministries.
The Episcopal Church Women's Prayer:
Almighty God, we pray that you will bless our work in mission and ministry in the world. Make us so thankful for the power of your love, given through your son, Jesus, that we may pray, labor and give liberally to make known that love throughout the world. Bless us that our lives may shine forth the joy and wonder we share in your name. Amen.
Wednesday Morning Breakfast Group
One of the things we like to do at Holy Trinity is to eat and to gather together as friends. There is a small but dedicated group of parishioners who have been meeting for years each Wednesday morning at 7:00 a.m. for breakfast at a local diner. Currently we are meeting at John's Grill in Nederland. Following our good food and good friends, we all meet at the Church at 8:00 a.m. for Morning Prayer.
The Rule of St. Benedict talks about “ora et labora” or “prayer and work.” This very much describes the ministry of the Altar Guild. Yes, there are tasks to be accomplished for each service . . . they are tasks that bring us into the presence of God . . . into his Holy Time . . . Be Still and Know that He is God!
At Holy Trinity there is a group of dedicated individuals who give of their time and talents to clean for the church, set the altar, care for the sacramental linens and paraments and polish silver each week to the glory of God and the grateful appreciation of the rector.
It is joyful work because it is prayerfully done for the love of God. No particular talents are necessary. You can be man or woman. There are never enough volunteers!
